| STEINBERGER 1981/82 L-2 H/LESS BASS. |
| |
- CONDITION: Very Good.
- ALL GRAPHITE.
This is a very early (almost prototype) Steinberger L-2 Bass serial
number 374 made in the Brooklyn factory (bit of trivia, ser no#
430 is owned by Sting). The frets show virtually no wear. There
are small scratches here and there. The pivot-plate strap button
has worn a groove in the back, above the locking depression. The
leg rest is also present and is the snap-in bayonet style. There
are some slight string grooves in the EMG housing, mostly on the
neck pickup. The battery-cover is a replacement -- original included.
The silk screened/sticker Steinberger logo has worn off the body,
which is common with these early basses. All in all, the bass
is in excellent shape. The electronics are also fine. Comes, also,
with a new hard shell case, original booklet and various promo
information. This bass sounds and plays fantastic -- The sustain
and tone of the L-2 basses are claimed to be more desirable due
partly in fact of the "knife-edge" type bridge saddles
in contrast to the roller-type saddles used on the later XL-2
basses. Evidently, they only made up to around 1,300 of these
L-2 types in variety of types, but this is the standard type 4
string model. Other differences are that the access screws are
on the face vs. the back side, a plain bolt-down string adapter
on the nut in lieu of the later adapter on the XL-2's. Neck and
phenolic fret board in excellent condition. One of the best basses
ever made. A future collectors classic.
