| FENDER 1959 PRECISION BASS. |
| |
- CONDITION: Excellent.
- BODY: Alder.
- NECK: Maple.
- F/BOARD: Rosewood.
This is a 1959 Fender Precision Bass, ser no: 38175 with a slab
board rosewood neck. If you like the look of our ’57 Precision
but it’s more money than you want to spend then this could
be the one for you. It has had a professional body re-finish to
two tone sunburst but apart from that it is mainly original. We
can take the history back to the early 70’s when it was
bought from a pawn shop in the States, back then it was finished
in green. It was then re-finished some time later to the two tone
sunburst it is now. There is no neck date but that is quite common
for a ’59 because Fender stopped putting neck dates on during
a period that year due to a customer complaint regarding an obscenity
being written on a neck by a Fender employee. There is a 3 written
underneath the neck which again is right for that period. The
finish on the neck is all original with possibly a light overspray
on the headstock. The body although re-finished still has the
nail holes visible under the scratchplate and a faint body date
under the pick up but it is unreadable. Pots date 1959 at 137916.
The pickups, covers, pots, tuners, and gold anodized scratchplate
are all original. The only things we have changed / replaced are
the neck bolts which were pretty rough and the strap buttons which
were not original. The slab board is a beautiful piece of Brazilian
rosewood, and the bass plays and sounds lovely. We are supplying
it with a new Fender re-issue tweed case. Price and value of this
bass is down because of the re-finish but it still looks a stunning
instrument.
